The Gondwanan Origin of Tribosphenida (Mammalia)

چکیده
A review of the Southern Hemisphere Mesozoic tribosphenic mammal fossil record supports hypothesis that Tribosphenida arose in during Early Jurassic, around 50 million years prior to clade’s reliably dated first appearance Northern Hemisphere. mammals are known from Australia, Madagascar, South America and Indian subcontinent, classified into three families: Bishopidae (fam. nov.), Ausktribosphenidae Henosferidae. These stem therians, considerable morphological evolution occurred within lineage between Jurassic late Cretaceous. Important dental modifications include a graduated transition premolars molars, development molar wear facets V VI, loss for postdentary bones, reduction Meckelian groove true dentary angle. Previous classifications ambiguous because information upper dentition has been lacking. Upper molars attributed Cretaceous (Albian) group fam. nov. now possess prominent protocone stylar cusp C. We thus consider bishopids be sister Theria.Timothy F. Flannery [[email protected]], Kristofer M. Helgen [[email protected]], Australian Museum, 1 William St Sydney 2000, Australia; Thomas H. Out-of-India Gondwanan origin of some tropical Asian biota
Many hypotheses have been proposed to explain the presence of Gondwanan lineages in tropical Asia including, the out-of-India hypothesis, the Eurasian route hypothesis, long-distance transoceanic dispersal and the boreotropical hypothesis. Recent molecular studies support an out-of-India Gondwanan origin of some tropical Asian taxa. Specifically these studies suggest that ancient Gondwanan line...
متن کاملA Gondwanan origin of passerine birds supported by DNA sequences of the endemic New Zealand wrens.
Zoogeographic, palaeontological and biochemical data support a Southern Hemisphere origin for passerine birds, while accumulating molecular data suggest that most extant avian orders originated in the mid-Late Cretaceous. We obtained DNA sequence data from the nuclear c-myc and RAG-1 genes of the major passerine groups and here we demonstrate that the endemic New Zealand wrens (Acanthisittidae)...
متن کاملPhylogeny of Elatinaceae and the Tropical Gondwanan Origin of the Centroplacaceae(Malpighiaceae, Elatinaceae) Clade
The flowering plant family Elatinaceae is a widespread aquatic lineage inhabiting temperate and tropical latitudes, including ∼35(-50) species. Its phylogeny remains largely unknown, compromising our understanding of its systematics. Moreover, this group is particularly in need of attention because the biogeography of most aquatic plant clades has yet to be investigated, resulting in uncertaint...
متن کاملMolecular and fossil evidence place the origin of cichlid fishes long after Gondwanan rifting
Cichlid fishes are a key model system in the study of adaptive radiation, speciation and evolutionary developmental biology. More than 1600 cichlid species inhabit freshwater and marginal marine environments across several southern landmasses. This distributional pattern, combined with parallels between cichlid phylogeny and sequences of Mesozoic continental rifting, has led to the widely accep...
